Chris Cochran

A Northwest native, Chris has a long history in North Idaho. He started his professional life in the non-profit sector focused on leadership development with junior high and high school students.

Upon leaving the non-profit world, Chris started several consulting companies focused on new media, podcasting, and later IT. He leveraged his startup experience to a full time role in executive IT and Infrastructure Consulting, working with both startups and established firms.

Chris currently manages the operations of the Innovation Collective, including the IC programs in Coeur d'Alene.

Derek Christensen

Derek graduated from California State University, San Bernardino with a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Computer Science. Since then he has spent most of his 20 year career in the Food and Beverage Manufacturing industry. His last 8 years have been with Litehouse Foods where he currently holds the title of Sr. Director of Information Technology.

In his role, he oversees all aspects of IT from the corporate data center to the technology usage across 5 manufacturing facilities. His passion is the marriage between business and technology and, more recently, how to integrate new technologies into existing manufacturing process and systems to create a “smart” manufacturing environment.

On the personal side, Derek is married with three wonderful children and when not working you’ll likely find him engaged with his family and following his passions of hiking, mountain biking and all things hockey.

Jeff brings to our marketplace the wisdom only time (30+ years), extraordinary effort and the benefit of serving both some of the nation’s largest and most challenging technical buyers as well as rural marketplaces.

Initially arriving in Idaho in 1974 and then returning permanently in 2010, Jeff shortly thereafter founded the Inland NW Tech Pro association (formerly the NIITPA) with the goal to bring current best practices to our marketplace.

Dr. John Schovic

University of Idaho

Dr. John C. Shovic is currently serving as an Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Idhao in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He also is the Chief Technical Officer of SwitchDoc Labs, a company specializing in technical products for the Maker Movement and the IOT; and InstiComm, a company specializing in mobile medical software solutions for health practitioners. He was also Chief Technology Strategist at Stratus Global Partners with a focus on supplying expertise in computer security regulatory and technical areas to healthcare providers.

He has worked in industry for over thirty years and has founded seven companies: Advanced Hardware Architectures, TriGeo Network Security, Blue Water Technologies, MiloCreek, InstiComm, SwitchDoc Labs and bankCDA. As a founding member of the bankCDA board of directors, he currently serves as the chairman of the technology committee. He has also served as a Professor of Computer Science at Eastern Washington University, Washington State University and the University of Idaho.

Dr. Shovic has given over 80 invited talks and has published over 70 papers on a variety of topics on Arduinos / Raspberry Pi’s, HIPAA, GLB, computer security, computer forensics, and embedded systems.

Michael is innovative, strategic, operationally efficient, and results oriented information security executive with detailed knowledge of all aspects of security and security leadership. He is accomplished in the art of risk management and strategic planning that lead to executive decisions that balance the need to enable and support business goals with the need to ensure that the business has an appropriate level of Information Security and regulatory compliance.

His highly technical background is balanced with the leadership experience to appropriately present information security concepts and strategies to the most technical person to the Board of Directors. Michael has worked as a law enforcement officer, an information security consultant, a United States Marine, and in a wide range of security leadership roles.

Adept at leading a risk based approach to security that ensures unacceptable risks are prioritized and managed, while working to keep the user experience positive. This approach minimizes costs and maximizes value. Information Security does not have to be expensive; it MUST be strategic!

Michael is founder of the Community Security Coalition, a non-profit organization in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to educating companies, their executives, and their IT/IT Security on information security topics. he is also a "CISSP" instructor, and Adjunct Professor Norwich School of Graduate Studies; and holds a MS in Info. Assurance.

Ryan Arnold

Ryan Arnold is the Director of Regional Entrepreneurial Strategy at North Idaho College where he oversees the vision, direction, and development of innovation and entrepreneurship focused programs, initiatives, and partnerships for the institution. He was previously the Entrepreneurship Director at Startup Spokane, early co-founder of Coeur d’Alene organization Innovation Collective, and has held positions and run firms focused on economic development and the built environment over his career.
